Although many big cats are none too fond of soggy fur and wet whiskers, tigers positively thrive in the water, and are often found enjoying a bath in rivers and ponds. Far from shunning water, the biggest of the big cats actively seek it out, the cooling temperatures a perfect tonic to the extreme heat of the day. Tigers are also powerful swimmers, capable of travelling up to 4 miles in the water and commonly seen carrying their kills across lakes.

Sometimes we humans think we've got it all sown up when it comes to inventing ingenious means for surviving in environments in which we weren't meant to last two minutes. The the archetypal deep sea diver is a case in point. Yet while the image of a man in a cumbersome metallic suit with a cross between an armoured helmet and a goldfish bowl on his head might strike you as inspired, it starts to look a little foolish when compared with the grace of a kitted up diving bell spider.

A scuba canoe trundles along the seabed like something out of the Wacky Races, while above the water's surface a modern day surfer cuts back smoothly off the top of a wave. It's a surreal concept, it's true, and yet as art and photography it's genius. This is just one of the incredible series of 'Dopamine' underwater art installations from surf/street/skate label Insight51, featuring the combined creative handiwork of Steve Gorrow and photographer Dustin Humphrey.

Deep beneath the waves, far down on the ocean floor are scenes often associated with the stuff of nightmares – translucent fish with wide black eyes capable of seeing in the dark, shell fish with bioluminescent skeletons and colossal squid, so huge that no one has yet to picture them. All these creatures, though bizarre, are somehow quite expected but it’s doubtful whether many people would imagine a lake lying down there, too.
