How Photovoltaic (Solar) Cells Work

Assuming that demand remains constant, oil reserves can cover global energy needs for no more than 40 years. Energy crunch is imminent unless alternative sources are deployed. Among renewable energy technologies, photovoltaics is currently enjoying the largest growth rate. While the solar energy absorbed by the Earth's surface in one hour is more than the energy used worldwide in a whole year, solar panels account for only 0.0008% of total energy consumption. But dauntless scientists are working steadily towards resolving such absurdities.
