Its keen brown eyes and coal black nose could be stones in the snow-white landscape to those unaware they are the points of a triangle formed by its characteristic snout. Merging imperceptibly with its colourless environment, and able to withstand some of the most frigid extremes on the planet, this super-adapted animal trots nimbly on the icy surface, using its acutely sensitive hearing to home in precisely on its next meal under the snow. Then, it pounces.

When Hongtao Zhou sees snow, he doesn't make snowballs. Instead, he uses his creative powers to make art out of a useful and sustainable material. To that end, the graduate art student recently ventured out to frozen Lake Mendota near his University of Wisconson - Madison campus to build 'ice and snow furniture' that look quite fit for the dining room of an ice palace.

How many times have you wished for a freak storm to come so you could get the day off school? Well, some kid in Devon, England has been wishing hard! Not only did they manage to get the day off school but landed the rest of the town a day off, too. Only they probably weren’t so pleased about it. Torrential storms saw an estimated 270 million cubic-feet of hailstones fall in a five-mile square area within six hours yesterday in Ottery St Mary.
