Pottery was invented by the Incipient Jomon Culture of ancient Japan before 16,000 B.C. The craft of making objects from fire hardened clay created a paradigm shift in culture after which history could never be the same. With pottery vessels, the options for food preparation and storage increased dramatically. Furthermore, a new medium was present upon which both the mundane and sacred would soon be recorded.
