Mysterious Green Haze Over Helsinki [PICS]

It's like something ethereal you know is there before you but just can’t quite make out. Carbon emissions and climate change are all too real, yet such concepts are often either too intangible or large-scale to get a handle on. So when a green cloud appeared in the night sky amidst the haze of industrial smoke over Helsinki, it’s good to know the strange apparition switched on a few energy saving light bulbs in people’s heads.

You think that you’re on the right path but a prickling sense of uncertainty washes over you. You question your movements and double back to make sure you’re on the right track… These are just the reactions Dutch architects NL and Droog Design were looking for when they created an installation in Amsterdam.

Trees that Rotate by Themselves

You’d be forgiven in thinking that these trees have been pummeled and almost uprooted as hurricane season is upon us but, believe it or not, they’re actually meant to look like that. Created by the same guys who brought us the Blur Building, Diller, Scofidio and Renfro, the trees form part of an installation at this year’s biennial arts festival in Liverpool, UK.

Army of Mini Ice Figures Melt into Oblivion

Artists, generally, put an enormous amount of time and effort into their works, so when it all disappears within one day, it must be totally heart-wrenching. Brazilian artist, Nele Azevedo diligently carved hundreds of miniature ice figures as part of a recent installation only to watch them slowly melt in the heat of the day.
