Journey to Meet the Last Shaman of the Mi’kmaq

Many years ago, the author and a close friend took a summer road trip from New England (USA) through the Canadian Maritime provinces. Here, an unexpected encounter with a Last Shaman highlighted the tragic loss of language and culture that has afflicted indigenous peoples for centuries. Face to face and one on one, the experience was unforgettable. The Shaman's people were about to pass over a boundary from which there could be no return.

Captured in Dreamtime

The Australian aboriginal Dreamtime is a timeless mythic 'world' that exists for all eternity. In the Dreamtime, the Ancestors walked the earth, and created everything - plants, animals, geology and landscape. Many rituals in Australian aboriginal culture allow the tribe to contact the Dreamtime, to once again 'live in it' and be renewed, if only for a short time.
