Mormons believe that authentic Christianity vanished a century after Jesus and was restored only through Joseph Smith. Considered a prophet by Mormons, Smith revised— and in his view corrected— large sections of the Bible in the 19th century. The Mormon scriptures include the Old and New Testaments, but also include books containing Smith's revelations.

I dunno Tom, we use the word Blame on all sorts of things that aren't conscious choices made by people. People say genes are to blame for all sorts of things, the weather is to blame for this or that, etc. While obviously they weren't out wandering around handing colon cancer causing blankets to the natives or something their genes are technically responsible for this rare form of cancer. yes, it's a bit sensationalist, but it's more fun to say someone is to blame for something than it is to say "a british couple passed on a higher risk of colon cancer to descendants unknowingly". Also much less wordy.

British couple are to BLAME for colon cancer risk?

Thats a really poor use of English to be honest. You make it sound as though that woman in 1630 CHOOSE to give the colon cancer gene to her children and spread it throughout the US population!

Are people to blame for being shortsighted? Or having blue eyes? or being black? These are all genetic inheritances which cannot be helped. People are to blame for poor lifestyle issues such as smoking and poor diet, which are also major causes of cancer.

I wouldn't be surprised if the gene is just as common in the British population as the US population, as the two countries are likely to be very similar genetically. Lifestyle choices are the only thing people can be blamed for...

Interesting article but poor choice of title.

That is pretty amazing. I knew all that genealogical information they kept track of would yield some interesting things that we'd hear about someday.
