Further to the three compelling photos of aurora displays at Saturn's south pole. Saturn's aurora can only be seen in the ultraviolet and therefore is only observable from space. These three photos combine uv data from the Hubble Space Telescope with visible light photos of Saturn and its rings. In late January 2005, there was a strong disturbance in the solar wind which greatly affected Saturn's aurora display at the south pole. These three photos were taken on January 24, 26 and 28th, 2005. We see a dramatic brightening of the aurora on January 26 as it was impacted by the solar wind disturbance that had arrived at Saturn.
