Tammy Marie Rose says:

This type of drilling is anything, but environmentally friendly. Here in WV several healthy creeks have been degraded by this practice. They pump the water from the creek for drilling then pump the polluted water back into the creek contaminating it and killing its aquatic life. There are thousands of dead fish in WV creeks called 'fish kills' that have been caused by fracking. Everyone should take a moment and view Gasland.

You are so right Tammy, and I have been trying to tell people this, and many still do not believe.  The results from natural gas drilling are horrific.  My heart goes out to you in West VA.

Rich Morgan says:

With traditional techniques of energy extraction becoming less effective, as global reserves of easily harnessed fossil fuels deplete, more reckless attempts to provide energy are becoming common place. 20 years ago the idea of putting drilling equipment through the north west passage was idiocy, not just because of sea ice, but because the effort needed to do it is so immense and counterproductive.
Now we see dangerous energy initiatives, practiced to exploit niches in the market motivated by money and commerce. Desperate times call for desperate measures, and once an energy provision becomes productive it cannot be removed, and its harm becomes subordinate.
These initiatives should be opposed from the onset, but its only hindsight that gives us that wisdom.
Nice article.
How long has Hydro fracturing been around for?
How much energy does it supply?

@Rich and anyone else desiring to know.  Hydrofracking has been going on for decades so I've heard, but the difference is that NOW it is being done at a rapid rate, with more errors, and just plain apathy, and sloppy workmanship.  The other problem is that former VP Dick Cheney (under the Bush Administration) made a provision for, or an exclusion that oil and gas companies are exempt from the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act etc etc listed in my article, so now they do not feel they really have to be held accountable.
