An anonymous graffiti artist has been attacking London advertisements, with a signature graffiti style.
He or she has been gorily removing heads from well known advertisements such as this year’s blockbuster movie “Sex and the City” the movie.

Kissing couples, beautiful models and aspiring celebs have all come under ‘the East London decapitator’s’ knife; their beautiful heads replaced by bony, blood drenched stumps. His artworks are defined by the media as culture jamming or sub-vertising, which Wikipedia describes as, ‘the practice of making spoofs or parodies of corporate and political advertisements in order to make a statement,” thus their appearance has been predominantly on fashion and film posters such as the recently tagged Uniqlo t-shirt campaign.

Many believe that the works are a ‘head’ start on tackling the visual bombardment of adverts that Londoners recieve each day, Cities such as Sao Paolo, Brazil have already completely banned billboards in a campaign for a ‘New Clean City’ as a reaction against what many saw as outdoor advertising going too far.

oh man this is awesome. taking street art to a whole new level.
June 4th, 2008 at 8:15 pm
Ye Gads! This guy should be looked into. That’s one sick puppy
June 4th, 2008 at 8:34 pm
finally something new in the world of vandalism art. take that, banksy.
June 4th, 2008 at 8:53 pm
brilliant.
do you know who else loves to cut off heads ?
June 4th, 2008 at 9:06 pm
This is so awesome, what a great job he did on these… especially the sex and the city piece!
June 4th, 2008 at 9:08 pm
Wonder why it’s only the women who are being decapitated.
At least, in the pics shown here.
June 4th, 2008 at 9:08 pm
This guy needs to brush up on anatomy, he’s putting a ball joint in people’s necks. The resulting effect is that someone has a thigh growing out their neck that has been neatly trimmed at the hip. He should be using a trachea and spinal column.
June 4th, 2008 at 9:11 pm
yeah, to the criminal retarded level.
June 4th, 2008 at 9:13 pm
today, everything is “art”. even a flower sticked on a turd.
June 4th, 2008 at 9:15 pm
Great - bringing the galleries to the street… more more more please…
Where are these by the way?
June 4th, 2008 at 9:45 pm
Outstanding. You must admit that is pretty funny.

its the ice truck killer…….
June 4th, 2008 at 10:10 pm
I love it. very interesting take on life, i also like the detail on the top image.
June 4th, 2008 at 10:20 pm
I’m surprised there aren’t people from a certain religion standing around aplauding this art.
June 4th, 2008 at 10:51 pm
That’s right. Fascism is always the way to handle someone who chooses to creatively express themselves in a manner that some find offensive.
June 4th, 2008 at 10:54 pm
Yikes, I feel sorry for the kids who see that.
June 4th, 2008 at 10:57 pm
If it turned out the vandal were a Muslim, would you still think it’s so damn clever? I doubt it.
June 4th, 2008 at 11:22 pm
I’m completely in support of the graffiti, but the artist may want to brush up on his/her basic anatomy. That looks to be the end of a femur sticking out of those necks!
June 5th, 2008 at 12:09 am
Fuck London. City went to shit years ago.
June 5th, 2008 at 1:00 am
Uh, as far as I can see all the figures the artist decapitates are women…sinister or art? Or both?
June 5th, 2008 at 1:45 am
You are a fucking retard
June 5th, 2008 at 2:16 am
Haven’t caught the artist yet? Sounds like some hidden cameras around London would help. The ones on my site can be hidden in almost anything and are perfect for the do-it-yourself spys amongst us.
June 5th, 2008 at 2:30 am
for people who says this is vandalism, i hope your house gets vandalized proper so you could know what the hell you are talking about. I call all those advertisements of anorexic girls all over the place tasteless vandalism, and ugly gray walls where there should be some grass and tress vandalism…. bigots.
June 5th, 2008 at 2:45 am
I’m curious; WHO?
June 5th, 2008 at 2:54 am
Great art uplifts the spirit. This is not art, art doesn’t include everything “creative”. Yes it is a creation but it is depictions of destruction. I hate this crap.
June 5th, 2008 at 4:07 am
though i don’t agree with the artist’s chosen point of reference, i do enjoy the artistic ability and the message it was intended to send.
June 5th, 2008 at 4:21 am
love it - just what the world needs - who gives a shit if the anatomy aint right - you are missing the point. great way of shaking things up. all in favour of graffiti. well done headless horseman, whoever u are.
:)
if only the ad agencies had this kind of courage
June 5th, 2008 at 8:49 am
racist much?
June 5th, 2008 at 12:27 pm
Yeah, if only there were some cameras around London.
There’s so many cameras in London the average citizen is caught on video 300 times a day.
June 5th, 2008 at 5:00 pm
Huge respect. Puts banky’s recent toss into perspective.
June 5th, 2008 at 5:01 pm
This is sick! I am offended and I believe that anyone who sees this will be offended. They need to have a law which stops this kind of filth! What’s next, headless pets?!
June 5th, 2008 at 5:06 pm
God I hate graffiti.
June 5th, 2008 at 5:06 pm
A for good technique.
It’s all very clever, but why does he only behead the women in the sample of ads shown here? He doesn’t remove the identity of the men. Why?
June 5th, 2008 at 5:10 pm
Banksy?
June 5th, 2008 at 5:15 pm
Jr: and what was the message intended to send?
June 5th, 2008 at 5:28 pm
Looks like he plays too much “Age of Conan” to me.
(New MMORPG type game that features decapitation.)
June 5th, 2008 at 5:55 pm
I saw the headless SJP in Hackney and I wondered what it was about, I didn’t realise ti was a London wide thing
June 5th, 2008 at 5:55 pm
But yet people are killed in pointless wars for money and oil everyday. I thought people would be mindlessly desensitized to death by now. I see we all don’t care unless we see it. Hmm Odd.
June 5th, 2008 at 6:00 pm
And the message is? I’m trying to keep my mind open on this, but the fact that it appears to only be women leaves me doubtful about “agreeing with the message”.
June 5th, 2008 at 6:00 pm
…yes because pets clearly usurp humans.
**eye roll**
June 5th, 2008 at 6:04 pm
AND…on top of that…I think the “femur” ads to the artist’s goal of being melodramatic and whimsical. It’s clearly fake, it’s clearly outrageous…having vertebrae would just be rude and gory. He gets it.
June 5th, 2008 at 6:09 pm
how about just shocking the establishment because they are too freak uptight.
June 5th, 2008 at 6:40 pm
Truly brilliant. I especially enjoy the whining of the brain-dead idiots commenting on how it offends their sense of corporate-governmental conformity. Proof that it is quality art indeed.
June 5th, 2008 at 7:02 pm
This is brilliant! Now, I’m not a detective, or anything, but I think these pictures being posted by user name: Decapitator may have something to do with it.
June 5th, 2008 at 7:08 pm
It is interesting that it’s only women at least from what is shown. What kind of message is that sending? Great to see some creativity. For those who are worried about kids seeing the message, what kind of message are they receiving about the numerous sexual ads they are exposed to daily?

“This is sick! I am offended and I believe that anyone who sees this will be offended. They need to have a law which stops this kind of filth! What’s next, headless pets?!”
Therefore, you believe everyone is an over-reacting moron?

I love it - staying true to the REAL meaning of the word Grafitti - sick sh*t. http://www.merder.co.uk

“Truly brilliant. I especially enjoy the whining of the brain-dead idiots commenting on how it offends their sense of corporate-governmental conformity. Proof that it is quality art indeed.”
Agree with Jay 100%
June 5th, 2008 at 8:15 pm
Click on the Flickr link, and you’ll see that it’s not just women. There are men and even Kermit the Frog gets it.
June 5th, 2008 at 8:49 pm
In fact art is truly an form of creative expression and thats all, but how you view it is your own… was Poe uplifting? Elliott Smith? Edvard Munch depicted death, fear, hatred, and sad portraits of life. All these people are considered great artists by many but definitely “artists” by all.
This artist (certainly not a great artist) is making an expression that to me means we as a society are bombarded by advertisements on an almost minute to minute basis… He’s saying “Off with their heads!” and I agree. But how you see it may be different and that is the wonder of art itself!
June 5th, 2008 at 9:04 pm
That’s pretty awesome, granted extremely stupid if he/she were to get caught, but fr the moment…brilliant.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:15 pm
This is definitely at the cutting edge of art :)
June 5th, 2008 at 9:41 pm

I ish jealous of this guy/girl, I’m stil trying to figure out how to not to found out for my cities grafitti… :(
June 5th, 2008 at 10:53 pm
so whats the statement? trying to get noticed off of someone else’s thousands of dollars ad? banksy was clever and could actually paint. this isn’t clever just gross.
June 6th, 2008 at 1:48 am
No, it’s not only women. Try following the link, and you’ll see that men and even a monkey suffer the same fate. Narcifeminists rejoice!
Great art uplifts the spirit, does it? Excuse me while I vomit.
June 6th, 2008 at 2:01 am
Wow this is so gross. I am a huge pussy and haven’t washed my vagina in days. This hurts my inner child. This takes no talent. I am so scared. Wah wah wah wah
June 6th, 2008 at 2:16 am
lets push things forward - I LOVE IT
June 6th, 2008 at 2:26 am
you can tell that that bone sticking out of the meat is the head of a femur, not a cervical vertebra. this looks ultra fake, even if the bone were anatomically correct.
June 6th, 2008 at 2:58 am
Very creative, love it. I agree the femur makes it silly enough to be dope.
JK
p.s.
Duranimal! that http://www.merder.co.uk site is dope!
Where can I get that? I’m in Canada.
June 6th, 2008 at 4:17 am
this would take a lot of time, talent and guts to produce and successfully get away with.
this artist has achieved some impossible feats. for all the people out there who are insulted or “trying to find the meaning,” i put to you that how can you ask such questions if you are not contributing to the graffiti world.
is it laziness or fear?
dont pass judgement until you have attempted to add some individuality to your mother city.
June 6th, 2008 at 6:23 am
These are faked. They are just photoshopped.
June 6th, 2008 at 12:56 pm
HAHAHA, some of the comments to this image are so retarded, i am not surprised the earth is in the shape it is in now.
This not only is art, but it’s one of the best pieces of art i’ve seen for quite a while. Advertisements are a form of brainwashing, just like TV is, i hope to see this same “vandalism” in TV too, pretty soon.
About kids seeing this: do you really think this is worst than the nudity on most ads. Seriously, how does an almost completely naked woman relate to chewing-gum, or coke, or whatever.
THINKTHINKTHINK, or else we’re doomed!
June 11th, 2008 at 2:11 pm
Decapitator? More like de-crap-itator.
June 11th, 2008 at 7:45 pm
cool, but kind of creepy
June 11th, 2008 at 10:35 pm
My friend first told me about these in art the other day. The concept intregued me, and now that I’ve seen it; I’m completly not sure about it. I love it and hate it.
I love it because the artist has done something really original. I haven’t seen anything like this before, and it’s interesting and new. It shocks you and makes you think, and to me that’s what art is all about. Making you think.
I hate it because it’s fairly repulsive, and could shock or cause trauma to (especially young) people. It’s repulsive to look at, and if the artist was going for an anatomicly (you know what I mean) correct piece, he fucked it up badly. But as I’ve read, in the comments before mine, that the artist gets what he’s doing, and doesn’t intend on making it gory by using correct joints etc.
And what was with the Muslim comment earlier?! Nae need. Just keep racism out of art please you pathetic people.
And what’s with all this “Oh that’ll show Banksy!!” Grow up. Did Banksy ever say there was anything wrong with this person’s artwork? No, he didn’t.
Anonymus graffiti isn’t vandalism. It’s expressionate.
Mindless tagging is fucking vandalism. And fucking pointless.
June 30th, 2008 at 6:27 pm
I disagree. I mean, it could be art, but it’s the message that it portrays that makes it art.
That’s why pornography is not art. It is not expressing anything about society.
July 1st, 2008 at 5:38 am
to the people debating about the bone being incorrect;
that’s obviously done on purpose. This guy has graffiti instinct… the bone is his trademark, or his signature if you will.
it’s just one of those things. most of you wouldn’t understand it.
July 1st, 2008 at 5:39 am
also… the definition of art is a form of communication.
so i’d say this is art in it’s most literal form.
July 7th, 2008 at 3:13 pm
great attention to detail and quality, the creativity and the balls to pull it off. i respect him as a fellow artist even though it isnt in my taste…
July 15th, 2008 at 2:10 am
at first i was confused because it was the wrong bones sticking out- them bones ain’t neck bones!! otherwise great art but too bad they don’t look realistic most especially the sarah jessica parker one!LMAO i want it framed!
July 19th, 2008 at 1:04 am
This is amazing, dont criticize for not looking real; it looks exactly the way he/she wanted it to look. great job and amazing originality, we need more of this stuff. freedom of speech isnt just limited to speech itself.
