Mark Twain has always been one of my favorite authors. He is so sarcastic and witty. I remember the first time I read Twain’s article. As I was trying to position my hands as described I caught myself: “Hey, wait a minute . . .”

Twain's hoax was set not in the state of Virginia, but near Virginia City in the state of Nevada, where the Territorial Enterprise was published. See also Twain’s original 1862 squib and Twain’s own expose, published twenty years later.
