For those of you who remember hearing about how the drought affecting the Southeast United States was bad for marijuana production last summer– or maybe you just, ahem, noticed– there’s been some fine developments for our very mellowed-out friends.

Many Phish fans are alleged to have smoked marijuana. Original image here.

Last summer’s drought, which will still take a period of years to overcome, happened to hit hardest 6 of the 10 most prolific producers of marijuana.

With the release of this new projection, it looks like Kentucky, West Virginia, Alabama, and Arkansas are beginning to find their way out of the woods, with Georgia and North Carolina in a state of meteorological confusion. That map also represents especially “good” news for Kentucky. The projected recovery will be strongest in the part of the state that has annually seen the most seizures by the DEA. Also know that for what it’s worth, if you’re so obsessed over this situation that you have to have real time monitoring, the USGS offers it here.

what the f-ck does this article have to do with phish?
go to any concert of any band, and there will be people smoking pot. Why single out Phish? That is so f-cking lame.

  2. Durtha tha Destroyer Says:

I used to love going to Phish show’s until they stopped touring. I’ve been alleged to have smoked pot before although it’s never been proven. Go KY!! We (heart) you!

  3. Ron Burgendy Says:

Easy Phishey. Nice language by the way. You must have gone to school in KY. Probably Western I am guessing. Dent tay learn you nuthin boy?

  4. Robert Says:

there have been some particularly angry comments regarding a certain band and any suggestion that its fans may or may not use certain illicit substances. I know for a fact the author was not intending to attack fans of the band or the band itself.

  5. vaporizer Says:

I am from KY and am not taking kindly to your stereotypes Burgendy. That’s original. Would you like to pigeonhole some minorities while you are at it? I’m going to guess that you probably went to St. Mary’s school for girls or the like.

  6. Durtha the Desroyer Says:

I happen to know that Mr. Burgendy is a University of KY drop-out and he too reaps in the benefit’s of KY…on a daily basis. :)

  7. Mike Hunt Says:

This is lamest piece of journalism I’ve seen in a long time. Do they pay you for this, because this is a bad joke. Nevermind that the drought has resulted in low water levels across the southeast and wildlife and farmers are struggling; no, at least fans of a band that doesn’t even exist anymore will have quality buds to smoke.

  8. vaporizer Says:

Fans of pot smoke pot. Fans of Phish have good ears for music and may or may not smoke pot. I thought this was an open forum, yet many posts are being erased. Stereotyping is no good. Why don’t you right an article about Nike. Then for some reason show a picture of a black man with the caption “Black people allegedly play basketball”? The article was about Nike, which I feel loosely relates to basketball. Was that the authors mindset or was he trying to get a few easy chuckles? Maybe he could clear this up.

  9. Robert Says:

because of violent threats and immature attacks on our writers, we’ll remove the picture. While intelligent people should be able to disagree without resorting to threats of violence or questioning someone’s sexuality, apparently several people were not able to do this. The majority of phish fans are no doubt likeable and intelligent people, but the minority of fans who have left a string of vile comments (which we’ll not dignify by posting on this website) have made yourselves look far worse than any picture possibly could. I’m sure the members of Phish would not be excited to be associated with people who suggest a writer should get AIDS for suggesting some of their fans might smoke pot either.

  10. screw you Says:

screw you ass-ole….maybe you’ll think twice about slandering/offending “the majority” of phishheads!
you might have thought it was funny..but the joke is on you and your blog that supports slander/censorship!
pick on fans of ’snoop dog’ next time and see what happens, they don’t use dirty words…they will just cap yo @ss fool.

  11. Sharon Peters Says:

    Good point.

  12. Durtha the Desroyer Says:

“Cheap Saturday morning entertainment!” I like the article and original picture…funny:)

  13. Ron Burgendy Says:

I am with Durtha. This is pure Entertainment. Phisheys get violent if you dis their band. Angry, angry hippies!! Shame on you!!! What would Trey say?

  14. vaporizer Says:

This site allowed itself to be bullied into taking down a picture and a caption that was not really bad to begin with. You should have showed some integrity, even if none was being shown in return, and stood by your original picture and caption. It did not take that long for you to remove and you have opened yourself up for future flames over miniscule items.

  15. trey Says:

    trey would say:
    “f-ck you assh-les!”
    especially to you ron!

  16. Veronica Corningstone Says:

Ron Burgendy, I will have you know that I have more talent and more intelligence in my little finger than you do in your entire body, sir. And I was learnt at Western Kentucky University. Go Hilltoppers! Good day.

  17. phishheads Says:

What does that make you? making fun of “angry hippies.”
    a cheap shot clearly backfired.
next time, put up a shot of your favorite boy band like n-sync or backstreet boys….basically any (fill in te blank) band that makes sh@#$ music and has fans that wont STAND UP FOR THEIR HEROES AND FELLOW FANS!!!
don’t pick one of the most talented and respected bands in the history of rock…cause your gonna get schooled!

  18. by popular demand Says:

THE SLANDEROUS CAPTION “FANS OF THE BAND PHISH ALLEGEDLY CONSUME MARIJUANA” AND THE PICTURE OF TREY AND FISHMAN WAS REMOVED………….BY POPULAR DEMAND!

  19. Robert Says:

vaporizer, you’ve made an excellent point and I’m embarrassed that we allowed rude comments to have any effect on our content. It was silly to back down. Readers offended by the image will continue to be offended that it was ever there, as evidenced by the barrage of negative comments. Back it goes.

  20. flimflam Says:

hah you dont even know how to spell FISH right……..hahahahahahahahahahahahahahhaha

  21. a good lawyer Says:

wonder what the lawyers who represent the band PHISH would think of their picture being used without permission and out of context?

  22. CosmicCharley Says:

Maybe a picture of George Bush’s kids would have sufficed instead.

  23. talent? Says:

gee…that really took talent to lift that pic off of wiki-pedia. Just like it took a huge amount of talent to write this garbage.

  24. Vaporizer Says:

I am with Durtha. This is pure Entertainment. Phisheys get violent if you dis their band. Angry, angry hippies!! Shame on you!!! What would Trey say?

Trey would say ” sorry I can’t talk now, I am due in drug court in 15″.

    Hey Ron,
Are you one o those people who thinks that Trey is god and would allow his thoughts to shape yours? Oh man, Trey’s not gone to like this, he’s gone to be so garshdarn upset. I think he may have a few more pertinent issues at hand than to worry about a few people making a complete mockery of an article and throwing around some off-color comments causing the mod.,pub.,ed. to remove a picture and caption. Sheer entertainment. Have you thought of the chance that this was all just an inside joke started by a few that you just happened to witness!? Doh! Next time ask yourself what you think of a situation, not what someone you probably have never met thinks. Maybe you have heard BATR a few times so felt you could chime in on the thoughts of Trey. What about Mike, Page, and Jon? Aren’t you curious as to what they might think? This site got punk’d.

wow! and we thought you were not so much of a d-bag!

  26. spacecoyote Says:

I don’t believe that to mention Phish-fans and grass-smoking in the same article is offensive. What is completely baffling though is this: in the context of this story, what does Phish and their fans have to do with ANYTHING? What’s the matter author, did you not think people would read your absurd (and sophmoric, seriously) article if you had used a pic of John Denver?

  27. harpua Says:

What’s so wrong with smoking marijuana?

  28. Ron Burgendy Says:

Aactually it is you that have been punked. It is hilarious to see how rediculously angry some idiots get. No I am not a big Phish fan but I have been to several shows (about 20) and I can appreciate that they are great misicians. And yes I am from Western KY and most of my family graduated from Western. It is absolutely assanine that people get so angry about a harmless article and go to the extent of threatening the authour and wishing things like AIDS upon him. And yes this whole thing is a big joke that aparently sucked you in too. My comment was an inside joke directed to a friend of mine that is a huge Phish fan that forwarded this atricle to me and posted a comment himself. And graduated from Western KY. Jesus… some people are total jackasses!!! Get over yourselves, relax a bit, and quit taking everything so literaly. Unbelievable!!
