It appeared after a fire in rural Mississippi that Claws the cat had chased his last mouse. However, Firefighter Jared Brister wasn’t giving up.

With one of her precious felines already a casualty of the Monday morning fire, Barbara Simmons thought claws was out of his nine lives, as well. “He was not breathing,” she said from McComb in an AP interview.
Barbara obviously hadn’t counted on the heroism of Fireman Brister, who put Claws on oxygen and began doing chest compressions for a five-minute span with help from squad-mate Donnie Hodges. I’ve seen little masks for pets before that are about the size of a solo cup, although I don’t know whether that was at our hero’s disposal.
Claws, who was briefly hospitalized, returned home Tuesday.
