Berkeley has always been known for its progressive policies.

This time, Berkeley has decided to make it possible for all its citizens to go solar. The program will help residents install solar systems on top of their houses, without having to put money up front.

Until now, solar power has been a privilege of the rich. On November 6th, the city council will vote on a plan to finance the cost of solar panels for property owners who agree to pay it back with a 20-year assessment on their property.

The taxes would be the same or less than what property owners would save on their electric bills. This means, owners would not have to pay anything extra for the installations.
