Baby Girl Born With Two Faces and Four Eyes, Worshipped as a God

In the rural Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh, 50km north east of New Delhi, a woman gave birth to a baby girl with two faces and four eyes.

The 4 day old is being hailed by villagers as the reincarnation of Ganesha – a Hindu God, who is depicted as having an elephant’s head and is patron of arts and sciences, and the deva of intellect and wisdom

Her birth was welcomed with friendly cheers, claps and offerings. Her parents, who have yet to name her have said that she is a “miracle” and “a gift from god.”

Doctors do not know whether she will be able to eat normally yet. At the moment she is being hand-fed.

If the baby girl had been born over here, she’d be considered a freak. However what I think is incredible is that her difference has been celebrated and she will grow up feeling special rather than a freak of nature.

It's really difficult when there are issues of poverty, lifestyle, culture and traditions that would compel them to do this type of human-worship and not do something about the child's disabliity. I just hope the child would grow up healthy and happily nurtured.

Juan (not verified) says:

ok, first off, for you jesus freaks, f*** off and push your religion elsewhere. If you want more people to believe your crap join the jehova witnesses. You have yet to produce proof to back up your religion and rely on the almighty word called "Dogma". You believe in your god, they believe in theirs. you have no proof your god exists, and neither do they. for all we know, god could be a fat@ss on a high chair. or there could be no god at all. And dont preach to me that "everything in the universe is too perfectly organized for there to be no god" bull****. save it for someone retarded enough to fall for circular logic.

for the people calling her a diety, dont be quick to jump the gun and consider something easily medically explained by situation as a divine being sent down to save you. I respect your religion, but this girl is a victim of circumstance. I'm overwhelmed to hear that you all accept this child and treat her with such kindness, while here in america, we usually kick these people to the curb.

Props to Arkhaz for being one of the more sensible and more intelligent poster among the entire group. Armed with knowledge of pregnancy planning, and proper nutrition facts, he was able to asses a few of the factors that could arise a genetic mutation of this caliber. I, as a medical student, have read many a condition, sharing similarities to this, some being born with almost the exact same condition that we are seeing here. This is not something new, the faster we realize this, the faster we can get over trivial comments.

all in all... this baby is beautiful in my eyes. An equal miracle of life. It is sad to say that not many with genetic mutations such as this can move on to live a full life. There is NO SURGICAL SOLUTION to this. One can only hope that her time on this earth is a peaceful one.

for future haters: i respect your opinion

for future props: i respect your opinion more.

Wow! I'm amazed on how humanity is being lost for some of us. Even though many of you believe your God is the only God the one thing you should think about is your faith to believe in a God, be it Jesus or Ganesha or some other being. It is in our nature as humans for us to believe in someone or something in order to give us hope. This is what has been passed down from generation to generation in every culture. Consider that faith can bring people together and religions just separates us.

Mr Happy (not verified) says:

First to the Jesus freaks here is no god or gods. You do realize that you have rejected hundreds of thosands of gods, most that predate yours. From the gods of the Pagens to the gods of Greeks, to the gods of the hindu. Yet, after rejecting all of these other gods (odds are you never took any time to learn about them anyway) you are convinced that your, rather recent god, the the one true god. Once you figure out why you can reject all of the other gods so easily you will see why rejecting your god is easy too. I stopped playing with imaginary friends when I was 5, when do you plan to give yours up?

For any younger readers here remember what you parents told you about Santa? Gifts for good people, sound a little like another figure they told you about?

As for the girl, I guess I am the only one to say this, but who wouldn't want to get a hummer from two female goddessess? in about 15 years you can, but with one person.

Gift from God...IS GOD?!?
Please. This is the result of blasphemy among the infidels. It's not a blessing, it's the wrath of what people, (not specifically the parents) deserve. God is sending a negative message in the form of a child to remind us to head back on the right track.

I have not heard any updates on this baby since her birth...I am very curious as to how functional each face is, and her chances of survival. Does she have just one esophagus? Does she eat with both mouths? We're condemned as being morbid if we're curious about these deformities, just someone who wants to ogle a "freak" of nature, but really it's just a normal curiosity about the workings of the human body, and the extent to which a human can adapt to their differences. I wish her a happy and healthy life!

All I can say is that it is most certainly fascinating ... any educatated person knows that that this is just a freak of nature. Mutations happen every day whether or not it's a person or a frog. Dude (not verified) says:

to "DAVE",
these people believe in their religion and according to their religion they would like to think that this baby is a reincarnation of God.
You think this baby is a freak of nature??
What about the woman in the USA who had 14 kids at once, was she a freak of nature?? I guess not because according to you "Dave" she's from a first world country..people flock to her home every day to see her 14 kids..
This is one of the reasons why this world can never be a fair place because someone is always saying something to discriminate another person's belief.
you just proved how even people living in a first world country can be foolish..

A (not verified) says:

First of all, surgery is not an option for this little girl, she only has 1 set of organs! And Dave, people have every right to believe in what they want, if they believe she is a god, then that is wonderful. Just b/c you're too ignorant and close minded to accept another culture's beliefs, doesnt make you any smarter then they are. I wish this child, her CULTURE, and her family all the best...

uhh, that looks NOTHING like an elephant's head. What do you have to smoke to make that look like an elephant's head? I could probably use some this weekend.

0

kongstuffer (not verified) says:

Well yes Natasha unfortunately Eastern Indians do say "those Americans and those English". And that's the point, you make sweeping generalizations about Eastern Indians and Westerners. Of course there are closed minded people here, but are you so niave to think that India is spared? Ever heard of the caste system? And OH how about the clashes between Hindu & Muslims. You do realize I could go on and on citing many holes in your theory don't you? So what if they want to worship her? Well for one thing, why worship a person who has done nothing but be born. Pretty strange I say. Why don't we worship you? Because you have done nothing to merit worship. Their thinking she is a god is just misguided.

0

Teresa (not verified) says:

What a beautiful little girl, or should I say little girls.
I am so thankful she was born in India where she will be thought of as special (because she/they are) and treated with respect.

how unfortunate that our own American culture cannot see the value in uniqueness.

0

Dawn (not verified) says:

do you remenber that girl who born with 4 arms?? and now a girl with two faces?? both are from india…coincidence maybe or maybe not…

I'm guessing it is coincidence. In that culture, such babies are revered as reincarnations of dieties. In our culture, such babies are usually aborted when an ultrasound shows a severe birth defect. We don't often see the live births, but it doesn't mean we don't have this issue.

0

Jenn (not verified) says:

This is one girl, not two or three. Some people seem to be confused as to whether this girl is a siamese twin. if she had started out as two eggs and fused into one she would be a chimera, or a single person who has two sets of DNA. this is not the case here. she has one brain, one set of organs, she might have become twins but the zygote didn't separate properly.

Ok, like 4 people have already attacked Dave for expressing his opinion, f*****g move on. You are the ones being narrow minded because you HAVE to blast him due to not agreeing with his comment. Oh no, someone thinks that the mutated baby might perhaps not be a god. Which sounds more plausible? Mutated baby being a run of the mill Indian mutation...or perhaps an ultimate being sent here to save us from ourselves? Hey, I'll be the first to say I'm sorry if the kid lives a sinless life and dies for my sins, but c'mon people. I've said my peace...someone had to stand beside Dave.

Rebekah (not verified) says:

Wow. Every culture has their own way of processing the event of "mutations" as some here call them, or divergences from the average. In many cultures that believe in reincarnation they believe that these PEOPLE (yes they really are still people, not just masses of flesh for you to poke and prod and dissect) have been brought into their families' lives because those people have been specifically chosen to care for that soul, to give that person a safe haven of love and care. Or that perhaps they were sent to them to teach them something. They also tend to believe that the soul is an older soul, someone who has given a lot to the world and who has earned the right to be taken care of and loved. Rather than see people with differences as horrible freaks to be feared, they see them as half way to Nirvana, a sould who could teach you something. I have always thought that to be a very peaceful and loving way of processing that event, rather than the "educated and civilized" way of bemoaning, oh why meeee, what have I done to deserve such a horrible monsterous child?

They may also believe in dieties, reborn in the flesh...hmmm more than half the developed world believes god either was re-born in the flesh as Jesus, or will be born as the messiah some time in the future and no one calls them idiots. Maybe it just helps people to understand the different experiences of their lives, and until we walk the proverbial mile in their shoes, it's hardly our place to judge them.

It seems awfully bigotted, ignorant, classist, ethnocentric, and down right cruel to poke fun or laugh at the way someone else processes their life experiences. But if it makes you feel superior, rock on with your bad selves.

I think, despite the chemical interference that may or may not have occurred, despite the "freakish" or "frightening" appearence she may have, despite all the troubles she will likely face in her life health-wise and socially, it is beautiful that her village has taken her in as something to be celebrated rather than feared and despised. We could learn something from these so-called Stupid Third World people about acceptance and love and appreciating the uniqueness and the miracle of every life, no matter how different they might be.

There are several posts talking about what a beautiful girl and a great blessing this is. Optimism is nice but this is a major birth defect and it's hard to imagine that this child will ever have a normal or comfortable life. Who cares about whether or not a bunch of villagers worship her as a god? People who believe in one sort of god here are making jokes about people who believe in another sort of god somewhere else - did it ever occur to anyone that the whole idea of gods and devils and ghosts might be just a bunch of regional fairy tales, so they're ALL silly?

For all the people who are being disrespectful, ignorant, and rude, what right or reason do you have? I'm just wondering, are the people thinking about the child's warefare or just ignoring it through the belief that Ganesha will one day be reborn as one of the most mutated person on earth due to pollution. How will normal people her age when she is growing up react to her? Will she have a normal life or be a freak of nature? Sure this kid might be the most recent "Ganesha" but then another deformed kid will come and she'll be forgotten. Maybe their scientists should just create a four armed, two legged, elephant faced child that everyone can worship so they can probe the real problem of the deformities. This is like one of those "right to die" cases.
