I love this post!

I wrote an article (http://yourecosource.com/blog/2007/10/26/down-with-ecoelitism/) a few days ago saying pretty much the same thing, right down to the poor hygiene. What's with that anyway??

People who really care about the planet know we'll get the job done faster with praise than with I'm-greener-than-you rants.

i spent much time last night considering if i really did want to post my comment, for i have a lot of respect for the work that you are doing here on this site. i think you cover a lot of stories that seem to be missed from many other blog sites and the mainstream media. i think you achieve a lot considering that you are a smallish team and appreciate that you do not go to excesses with advertising and have a good understanding for the breadth of environmentalist issues. i eventually chose to post the comment, not because i disagree with the point that the image generally associated with the word environmentalist needs to change, but rather that i thought you went about it in the wrong way. i knew it was meant 'tongue in cheek' and would not have criticised it if i thought you hadn't committed the same crimes that you charge this 'type' with, namely inconsistency, not having facts and being argumentative (i'm talking about in this article here only, not in general).

maybe it's best to leave the discussion here or maybe continue along constructive lines and ask questions like - why environmentalists arent more effective? or how to convince someone else to change more than a lightbulb?

also, apologies for being slightly harsh comment last night, i think i could have made my point and been a little more diplomatic.

I feel i should reply to some of these comments. I apologize to screwing all of you out of the extra two ways environmentalists can be less annoying. It was a calculated attempt to piss you off. Second of all, this article was tongue in cheek. Obviously I'm using broad strokes and stereotyping just one of the many different types of environmentalists. The title may suggest that its aimed at all of the people in the environmental movement, but I do mean it to only apply to certain people. The people I'm talking about do exist though, even if they are a minority of the people within the environmental movement. Mostly this was based on several people I went to college with who drove Nissan Xterras, smoked weed, grew dreads, and lectured everyone endlessly on the environment to the point where it pissed off people that might have actually gotten involved otherwise. While some of the suggestions are serious and practical, this was meant to be a bit more tongue in cheek than some people are taking it. Finally, I am not seriously suggesting I will beat people in the face for being annoying Upaya, it's just a bit of hyperbole to introduce the article. Now relax and enjoy the article, or don't.

It's about time someone said it. There's nothing worse than a hypocrytical hippy environut and this comes from an enviro-nut. You blame everyone for the horrible environment, but you drive around a 77 VW Bus spewing smoke from the back, you burn a huge stack a winter of wood to heat your house, you smoke pot grown indoors with a slew of nasty chemicals under 4000 watts of grow lights. Practice what you preach or shut up. You're making us all look bad.
