Everyone has sexual fantasies, some of them rather run of the mill, others much kinkier, but whatever is going through our minds, it seems like we are not alone: insects have them as well! Check out these images of insects mating... while not alone.
In some cases, other parties seem to want to get in on the act, while in others we see a third party subjected to – how shall we say? – extreme bondage of sorts. In this first image, it looks as if we have a voyeur on our hands, all too eager to watch the hot steamy action of the two ladybugs! Is the orange fly requesting to join in, perhaps?
Next up, more ladybug loving. If seems like the fantasies of our spotted little friends are centered around exhibitionism. Here the two bugs are going at it in the presence of an ant that we could swear is trying to get involved in the action. Or maybe the little ant is about to tap them on their shells and suggest that they go get a room!
You may have heard about how women used to be told to lie back and think of England during sex. Well, this takes being blasé and uninterested during the act to a whole new level. These two insect were busy mating, but as they were doing so the female continued eating her lunch the whole time until finally she let it drop. So the poor fly had to watch them get it on while being sucked dry, so to speak.
This scene looks like the insect world's porn theater – with private rooms for those who want to look in on the action. Again, it's ladybugs that are putting on the sexy show... for the dirty old man in a black trench coat (that's wings to you and me!) which appropriately enough appears to be a cockroach! We just hope the ladybugs are getting paid! No sense in doing it for free!
Last but not least, we have two insects that believe in all the comforts of home: "food, sex and TV???" as the photographer puts it. It looks as though the two assassin bugs are having a sexy time but want to be sure they can roll over and get something to eat immediately afterward, and so hang on to their dead ant. In actual fact, one of the assassin bugs is bringing food into the sex by eating at the same time. Meanwhile, a tiny (and kinky!) ant takes it all in...
This series of images shows that insects have some pretty unusual sexual encounters, certainly more exciting than most of us might think – or have ourselves! But, all joking aside, insect do have complex sex lives, based on the sensing of pheromones in many cases, and even luminescence in the case of fireflies. Still, who would have thought so many were such exhibitionists?
