20 Funny Pics of Flying Dogs Catching Frisbees

When dogs do something – be it digging, exploring, greeting or playing – they do it full on, just like children, and using their entire bodies, not giving a damn how they look in the process. And why would they? These 15 images of gravity-defying dogs playing frisbee are just amazing – and funny too! Almost makes you wish you were a dog (well, maybe just for a day).

Here’s what a wet dog catching a frisbee looks like. Wild and frizzy, for sure, but also very determined. The way its hind and fore legs are parallel is just amazing. And we'll be getting to know this aerodynamic pooch, named Trixie, a little better during the course of this post!

This mutt's expression is priceless – and the bared teeth also clearly say, “Don’t mess with me and my frisbee.” We wouldn’t dare!

“Yup, it’s mine!” is what Trixie seems to be saying in this dramatic – and hilarious – capture, in which she adds grace and a nifty karate chop to the whole frisbee-playing thing. According to Trixie's proud owner (and photographer) Emery Way, her sole aim seems to be to “wear out as many toys as possible.” We can believe it!

This dog playing frisbee on the beach is using its owner as a springboard! Clever! We love the way this mutt has stretched itself out, not to mention its wide-open mouth, eager for the catch. Awesome capture.

What a catch! This dog is so engrossed in the game that only the frisbee seems to exist for it. A great moment captured on camera that manages to morph thing and beast into one airborne frisbee-dog! Brilliant!

Jack Russell terriers are often considered an energetic breed, and it's no coincidence that they feature in many of our images. Not only do these cheerful dogs appreciate a good game of frisbee, they thrive on exercise generally and need a decent amount of stimulation throughout the day to provide an outlet for all that energy. This one has made a spectacular mid-air catch. High five!

This dog's got quite a spring in its step – or jump, we should say! It looks to be just as athletic and driven as any of the other canines featured here. We’re wondering how all these dogs would fare as a team.

The Jack Russell terrier shown here is one of our favorites. Its zeal and determination, and the way it's able to twist its body around for the catch, are hard to match. Here it looks like it's on its way down and preparing for landing, judging from the way its teeth are digging into the bright red frisbee. We love it!

Looks like this dog got its knickers in a twist trying to catch this frisbee. Without giving a second thought to its potentially painful landing, it's going all out for the catch. Truly admirable.

This black-and-white Border Collie was a favorite with the crowd that it entertained so effortlessly at a county fair. Who says dogs can’t fly?

Here, we can see Trixie, the Jack Russell terrier we met earlier, and Lily, a Collie and Golden Retriever cross, engaged in what looks like something out of the National Football League. Given Trixie’s ability to make awesome leaps in even the trickiest of situations, we're guessing she safely made away with the touchdown-scoring pass!

This Border Collie might be called the anti-gravity dog as even the landscape around it has disappeared. With these skills, we reckon it should try its hand at the high jump!

This athletic dog proves that the key to a good catch is a twist in the tail... or should that be body? While the open mouth is just about to snap tightly around the frisbee and the front paws are on their way down, the hind legs are still in mid-jump – and appear to have a life of their own! Spectacular capture.

Here we meet Trixie and Lily again – yes, still engaged in their game of frisbee! While Trixie has caught the frisbee in another gravity-defying jump, Lily seems to be thinking, “Just wait till you come down and the frisbee will be mine...” Gotta love the spirit of both doggies!

Here’s fuzzy dog Zeus jumping for a frisbee, not bothered that the wind is ruffling his fur quite a bit. We can’t even see the frisbee, but why else would this Greek god of a dog be jumping so high?

This Border Collie is almost giving the term airborne a new meaning. Aerodynamic to the max! A highly impressive pooch, and a brilliant, artistic capture as well.

Here’s another angle on the same catch. We just love the outstretched fore and hind legs. Like Jack Russell terriers, Border Collies are a highly energetic breed. As we can see here, they are also acrobatic, athletic and love a good game of any kind.

After seeing Trixie performing back flips like this one, people tend to get worried about the dog having a safe landing. However, as photographer Emery Way assured us, “She made the catch and landed on her feet!” What's amazing is that this wasn’t a one-off jump, but seems to be one of Trixie’s standard catching moves. Says Emery: “I've seen her do it a hundred times. It's hard to get a sharp pic of it because she jumps backwards toward me and out of focus.” We just wonder what exactly these Jack Russell terriers are made of!

Walking on air seems to be no problem for this dog, which may well take the biscuit! According to photographer Trevor Gregg, who took the shot: "This was taken during the frisbee dog exhibition at the annual Bowserfest in Dunedin, Florida. A few of the dogs could jump up to about 6 feet in the air and land on their feet every time like cats!" Frisbee dog exhibition? That sound like our kind of event!

Looking at these incredible images of dogs charging, jumping and flying through the air while catching frisbees makes humans playing frisbee seem positively boring by comparison. It also makes us almost wish we had four legs instead of two!
