I would love to experience 24 hour days of sunshine, truly amazing, not so sure about perpetual darkness that would mess up my head.

The Svalbard archipelago is not a part of Norway. It is "administered" by Norway in accordance with an international agreement. The coal mines are the most interesting part - only burned as fuel at Longyearbyen it is used elsewhere as a pharmaceutical ingredient because of the purity. You should also have mentioned the research center - auroras are amazing and common there. Can you tell that I want to return, promise not to die!
