Terrassa is not in Spain, it's in Catalonia, so near to Barcelona.

Gaudi's Sagrada Familia is architecturally eccentric and beautiful. It's a must-see for visitors to Barcelona. Fun fact: the building is not even finished; construction began in 1882 and still requires about twenty years until it is.

The one of Jagdschloss Granitz on the East German island of Rügen is pretty scary, too!
For some reason I remember it as not having a handrail when I visited the place, but according to the photos on the web it seems I am either wrong or it has changed since.

A staircase that turns around a center support is a circular staircase. It is technically only a spiral staircase when it's supporting structure is a spiral. Sagrada Familia - yes. Boston Fire Escape - no.

Still, a fascinating collection of photos of spiral and circular staircases.

Very cool collection - thanks! This made me also think of the 7-story Slide at the City Museum in St Louis. While not anywhere near as tall as many of these, it's a very scary place, especially at night. The center picture at the link below shows this amazing spiral experience.

That "trap door"-like thing at the bottom of the Hong Kong square staircase? That's not a trap door - it's a cheese slicer for people who fall!

You missed out the scariest spiral staircase of them all, the Gloucester Tree in Pemberton, Western Australia. 61 metres high!

This is a great collection of sites and photos, but you seem to have missed one of my favorites from Copenhagen (or Kobnhavn, if you prefer). It's the Vor Felsers Kirke Tower (414 steps if memory serves) with a great spiral staircase around the church steeple.

And Catalonia is a region of Spain...

Human DNA is known as the double helix.
