I live in Perth and mountains (not even hills) can be see from beaches 2 miles off the Perth coast. Maybe it's a pic from a place elsewhere.

Wow, the dual-shark attack video was amazing! Shannon is lucky to be alive!

Erm, I've seen plenty of photos of swimmers and surfers all having a whale (sorry) of a time, but an aerial photo shows ten or more sharks hanging about, same place, all the time, never any attacks. We're there to enjoy the surf, so are they. Supposedly sharks like to laze about near the surf, because the water is highly oxygenated. It's like a spa for them.

I don't know why people are so frightened. Yeah they can kill, but you have to be fairly unlucky to become a shark attack victim. They're big handsome fishies.

I'd like an aquarium with some miniature sharks in. Oh wait, I have! :-)

You have a report about a surfer's shark encounter, saying that while riding "on a monster barrel two miles off the coast of Perth in Western Australia, he little realised he was also dropping in on a monster of another kind. For as he powered down the face of the 20-plus-foot wave".
You must be geographically challenged. I have lived in Perth since 1972, and you don't get big waves here - EVER. This is most likely in the Yallingup/Margaret River area, about 350km further south, which is renowned for big surf. But don't let more than 200 miles stand in the way of a good story!!!

Having noticed what 'Perth Marketing' wrote, I have spotted the hills he refers to in picture 2, and I reckon it's quite probable that they are those of Cape Naturaliste, which would confirm the location as Yallingup, just south of there, and so it's correct that they are behind the surfer's left shoulder. Anyway, it's most definitely not Perth, and as I wrote before, this is about 350km (road distance) further south.

A few years ago one of our well liked local fisherman/abalone divers here on the Mendocino coast of California, Randy Fry, had just dove to get an ab when a Great White bit his head off, then spit it out and left! I'm acquainted with the guy who was in the water with Randy, and he was quite scared after he saw the BIG dark shadow of the shark and all the blood where Randy had dove and realized what had happened. He said it was the longest time of his life swimming back to the boat, all the while wondering if he was next to be bitten. Some unfortunate tourists found his severed head a couple of weeks later while walking on Ten Mile beach a few miles South of the cove where the attack occurred. One odd thing was that for years Randy had a premonition that he would die from a shark attack. It was truly sad that it came true. R.I.P.
