Look up Waverly Hills in Louisville, KY, USA. A terribly bad history.

Seems to me all of these examples are in Europe...
If you're interested in anything in the US, try NRPH. THe Northville Regional Psychiatric Hospital.
It's haunted as all Hell, and... well actually I was there last night. I live right across the street from it.

Hydroshock therapy, a creepy morgue, a 420 acre site with twenty-ish buildings in the middle of a forest.

It's fucking epic.

Excellent article which shows some great scenes of dereliction. I find it such a shame though that these magnificent buildings have fallen into such a state of disrepair and decay. I'm fascinated by the way these buildings must have been in their heyday. I hope that these pictures remain as a lasting memory of how great these places used to be - no doubt much grander than the modern anonymous, sterile, characterless NHS facilities that now replace them.

Amazing pictures that for me really capture the sinister feelings of what must be horrible places to visit. I can only imagine what atrocities were committed there, the patients that suffered in institutions which were supposed to help them. I can feel their pain in the photos, amazing.

There is a really huge "state hospital" in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, USA... it's in the shape of a horseshoe, and is a third of a mile long from end to end. Really something...

Came across this by accident... very interesting indeed!

I'm working at the King's Park Site doing renovations. We had to do an inspection of one of the buildings (York Hall). We were doing confined space entry with full tyvek suits due to all the bird poop. No ghosts... I think they would have been scared of us in those getups. The place was so creppy looking with all the kids satanic graffiti and covered in fecal matter.

Climbing around in crawl spaces under the building and above the ceiling we found old magazines and comics from the 50's that someone had stashed there.

The New York State psychiatric hospital in Utica, NY was built in 1843 and is one of the creepiest places i've ever been around.

WOW, what a great piece. Spooky old asylums completely fascinate me (I love the film Session 9). Thanks for doing the research on this one. I will bookmark!

Fantastic article and absolutely amazing pics! I've checked out some of these places but always good to find some new ones. Crying shame about Hellingly, such a historic place. There's a great Facebook page dedicated to it, well worth checking out.
