I know this is an old post but I feel I must point out (as I have on many threads about the “The Sultan’s Elephant”) That the “little Giant is not animatronic. She’s a giant marionette, operated by her followers. In much the same way as the Elephant himself.

There is nothing computerized about her. Rather, she’s made out of reclaimed wood and hydraulics, she’s controlled via her walking frame and mega strong steel cabling. Without the skill of amazing operators, she would not walk at all.

Forgive me if I sound picky but I want these amazing folks to get the credit they deserve. Rather than everyone thinking she’s computer controlled.

It should be mentioned that those puppets were used for mass-scale performance/parade in 2005 in Nantes on occasion of the 100th anniversary of Jules Verne’s death:

That is SO cool! It would never fly here – she’d have to have safety seats built into her arms with straps so the kids couldn’t fall out. But I love her AND the elephant!
