Regarding solar concentrators, a new plant in Israel is due to be completed in March. It uses an array of heliostats focusing on a tower containing a gas turbine.

The radiation is used to heat air which passes through the turbine, producing power. Biofuels or conventional fuels can also be used to drive the turbine when solar output is not enough.

For more see <a href="http://hiddenjoule.com/2009/02/02/samar-power-station-israel/" rel="nofollow">HiddenJoule</a>
