"though of course they are caused by the light not of the sun but of the moon"

Although very stunning and intriguing the moon actually just reflects the light of the sun. So you could say that it is still caused by the light of the sun...

I was just going to say the same thing about the fact that the moon provides no light but rather reflects the light of the sun. I think this is very interesting and hope to observe it myself someday.

I just got back from viewing and photographing the Lunar Rainbow at Cumberland Falls in Kentucky. Let me tell ya how amazing that was seeing it for my first time. It felt like an out of body experience, sorta like witnessing a miracle of sorts. Very powerful feeling of complete bliss. I'm forever hooked now and will be there every chance I get to photograph the moon bow in search of that "perfect photo" which of course I will never get :)

Thanks for posting these pics. I saw one of these during a winter, full-moon night several years ago. It was sort of 'misting' ice and there it was.... just not as bright as some of these.(I'm sure someone will feel the need to correct my 'misting ice' reference. Guess everyone needs a hobby)

These are amazing images. I was skeptical, initially, because I thought the mist from the falls was what was being referred to with an external light source. Now, I am a believer. Unfortunately, at least in this instance, I live in NYC and one generally in unable to see the moon or stars. Thanks.
