I'm from the Philippines and this looks like something they'd do in the more rural municipalities. There's another ritual where they actually crucify a man during Holy Week. The guy usually only last 5 minutes but that's gotta hurt. I've also seen a ritual in Indonesia where they whip their own backs with some kind of plant as an offering for a good harvest. Was this is in the Philippines? I’m from the Philippines and this looks like something they’d do in the more rural municipalities.
