Canada Says Baby Seals Will be Clubbed 'More Humanely'

Canada’s government says it is imposing new rules to ensure seals are killed "more humanely".

Ottawa has been heavily criticized for allowing hunters to shoot and club hundreds of thousands of seals to death each year.

Pictures of burly men smashing open the skulls of baby seals, sometimes causing a prolonged, painful death, has been a huge problem for the Canadian government.

Over 300,000 thousands seals are allowed to be killed in March and April, and are hunted for their fur and fat oil.

From now on, hunters will have to follow a three step process: After clubbing or shooting the seal, a hunter must check its eyes to ensure it is dead and, if not, the animal's main arteries have to be cut.

Animal rights protestors argue there are not enough regulators to enforce the laws.

hi i was so horrified by the act of animal cruelty and think there must be enough of this happening to be doing harm !! because of the 300,000's of seals being killed by idiots who dont care about animalsa nd the lifecycle of all animals which relates to each and every animal and us and the environment.. and global warming!! thanks for the info ! and she anything gonna be done about this stupidity!??? thanks alot !

there is no need for clubbing them because they really dont need their fur and if they do then too bad dont kill so many and go find something else to wear!!! they might as well kill their own families because its pretty much the same thing because these animals are cared about and are needed on this earth just like they like their families are... i wish people would do something about this and fix this terrible problem same as the killing of whales by japanese anf the killing of dolphins by the japanese andd the killing of sharks for their fins by asians.. not being racist just telling what else is going on which is absolutely stupid and should be stopped !! very soon or all hell will brake loose for the environment, animals and us !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! just think about it !! :)

Why the hell would you want to kill a seal.. just for their fur. There is something called FAKE fur and it should be used by the designers. The designers use the fur for their stupid ugly bags and clothing and then its worn in fashion shows. In the end no one even wears the sweater in public. So basically you killed a seal for a two hour show. You take away baby seals from their parents and kill them and vise versa. BE LOGICAL. AND IF ANYONE OUT THERE WANTS TO TRY TO STOP THIS IM READY TO GIVE IN. And those stupid idiotic people who like killing seals, well your screwed up in the head. Oh ya in the comments their is one guy named johnson... you enjoy clubbing seals, well change that. I dont think you would want to get hit with a bat. Im sorry Johnson i will have to disagree

You guys are so dum. How do you think they kill cows in factories... It is no more humain then this. Also theres the fact that no baby seals have been killed in 20 years. It was banned a long time ago
