Don't buy books, Chegg them

5 years ago Lifestyle

US website Chegg.com provides a revolutionary online textbook rental service, offering over two million used books and 800,000 new book titles for students to rent, rather than buy. The site was founded as a response to the high cost of college textbooks foisted upon students, and is welcomed by environmentalists as a way to cut down on consumerism and move towards a more sustainable culture. Now they have announced the launch of a new program designed to raise awareness for environmental issues that impact the multi-billion dollar textbook industry. "Chegg for Trees" will ensure that a tree is planted in a needy area every time a textbook is rented via the Textbookflix.com service.

Eco Libris plants trees for books

Chegg is delivering this program in partnership with the newly founded Eco-Libris, an organization that seeks to balance out the trees cut down for the production of books by planting trees in developing countries.

Osman Rashid, co-founder and CEO of Chegg, comments that “Textbook production requires the use of more than 20 million trees each year. This is our way of giving something back for the privilege of using these valuable natural resources.”

Chegg, through programs like Chegg for Trees, is intending to assist plantation efforts in areas facing critical levels of degradation, in order to more effectively combat global warming. Chegg plans to announce similar programs and partnerships in the coming weeks, including an initiative to support global literacy.

“The core focus at Eco-Libris is to give people an easy and affordable way to balance out the trees used for book production,” said Raz Godelnik, CEO of Eco-Libris. “We are excited to be working with Chegg on their Chegg for Trees initiative to balance out trees being used to produce textbooks.”

Chegg is the best! Not only does it save me a lot of cash, but they are very green friendly! coupon code CC120011 saves me 11% more on my books, and when I sell the books the code gives me an extra $5

This is my first semester to order from Chegg because buying books are sooooo expensive and half the time most of my books go to waste because they won't be bought back the next semester. So I decided to rent my books and it is WONDERFUL!!! I saved $470.00 no joke...my textbooks last semester were around $800...well this semester they were $260! I love CHEGG!!! They sent my books sooner than expected within 5 days even with it being a holiday during the business days. Great condition and very pleased. Thanks CHEGG!!! I will definitely do this again!

I have had nothing but great experiences with Chegg since I started using them a year ago. I don't understand how all of these people had horrible experiences. The customer service thing is sort of true, yes it is a little hard to get in touch with someone. But, the savings that I have achieved through them more than makes up for the lack of customer service. I have never had any problems with receiving my books or the condition they were in. In fact, they have always been in almost perfect condition. Not only that, but I have always received them in the time that they have specified that it takes to ship them.

I have been very pleased with Chegg's service and am getting ready to rent next semester's books from them. Chegg also buys used books. I got around $40-50 per book which was MUCH higher than I could get from the college bookstore or even by selling on Amazon. Coupon code CC101954 gives you an extra $5.00 when you sell your books to Chegg. The same coupon gets you an extra 5% off of book rentals.

Yeah I can't get a hold of chegg at all. I rented 3 books from them and only received 2 of them. I tried the customer service, what a joke. They provide no e-mail address. The phone number they have is only for account information and their card varification. Good luck getting a hold of a real person in their chat. Just keeps asking me to type in a question in a box. I don't know what to do with the book I need. I guess I'll just cancel the rented order for just the one book. Chegg kind of sucks I guess. If their customer service was better I'd keep getting books from them, but I'm done.

I agree with the others - do NOT order from Chegg. I have had so many problems with this company since I ordered my textbooks there in the fall, and their customer service is pretty much non-existent and gives you conflicting information. They waited at least a week to tell me that they didn't even have some of the books in stock that I ordered, and the books they did send didn't even arrive until close to 3 weeks after I ordered them. This was after paying extra for priority shipping, too. Then halfways through the semester they sent me 31 text message notifications, one or two every 15 minutes or so, between 2:00 and 6:30 am just to inform me that a book had been cancelled a couple months earlier. On top of that, their return process doesn't even work and only gives you the option to buy or extend the order, so now I'm fighting with them on that one too. The concept is good, but this company has terrible service!

DONT ORDER FROM CHEGG! I never got my book! Customer service never responded to my 4 e-mails or countless calls. Finally had to get the Better Business Bureau to come after them!
