Hypocrisy 101: A Brief Review Of Hurricane Katrina

As the death toll from the terrible cyclone that struck Myanmar climbs past 100,000, I keep thinking of the press conference that was held at the White House on Monday. First Lady Laura Bush, who from what we can tell is a fairly decent lady even if she’s a little conservative for our tastes, was sent to the press to ask Myanmar to accept American aid. What she ended up doing, however, was looking like a world-class hypocrite: you see, it’s not really smart to call out a government for not warning their citizens about a hurricane and a slow response when…your government didn’t warn it’s citizens about a hurricane and had a slow response. Join Environmental Graffiti for a timeline of events from the destruction of New Orleans.

Started rebuild after the civil war, 1866 State board of levee commissioners. How many presidents since then? Twenty seven. How many levees are there? Over 350 MILES. Our “COUNTRY” has known for “DECADES” that the current system of levees would not hold in category 4&5 hurricanes. Army Corp of Engineers began conducting feasibility study in 2000 and was still working right up to katrina. So who is to blame? Any great leader will accept responsibility even when it was not their fault. Cowards transfer the blame, down here the only people not accepting responsibility are the local government in the state of Louisiana. So here is the real time line. Weather channel tells everybody its going to be O.K.. Then they figured out that it was not going to be O.K.. State government,County government, City Government stands by and does nothing. Within 3 days action was taking places from fed gov. and private aid. I have been thru devestating natural disasters in 2 states and in both cases it was our local gov.that was first to respond. This is usually best since they are just down the street or in the next county or town. So here is the reallity. No president was ever going to throw billions of dollars at Louisiana. That not how it works anywhere in the world. Everybody waits for things to break and then tries to fix them. If it didn’t work that way, then no natural disaster would ever happen to anyone because everbody has endless supplies of money to throw at disaster prevention. Even if it would save just one life wouldn’t it be worth it? Well tell me this how about I start taking a $100.00, $200.00 maybe $500.00 out of your paycheck? If everybody in your country gave me $500.00 a month I could solve the WORLDS problems. So see how selfish you are? You don’t care about anyone but yourself. You make Bush look like a saint. Where is your airplane or ship full of food and water?

Bush (don’t forget the W.) and His cronies who obviously have only thier own welfare at heart, judging by the 911 orchestration, and shoot people with vision like Martin Luther King and P. Kennedy. Don’t worry , you are not alone, we here in Australia allowed our Govenor General to remove the Whitlam Government by the power of the Crown. Oh, and by the way, are you going to tell me that the face of P. Bush (don’t forget the W.) when receiving the news of 911 in that classroom, was not the face of one who already knew? A look of horror, or something, or ANYTHING, would have been appropriate. As would have immediate action. Er, sorry kids, gotta go, something REALLY important has just come up…

When the government subsidises insurance so people can build in stupid places, when the government builds infrastructure, when the government forcefully steals people’s weapons leaving them defenseless, when the government is relied on for anything, only disaster can ensue.
And yet, despite all that, the solution to Katrina was to give the government more money and more power.
Idiots are doomed to repeated failure.
