This follows increasing concern over the automobile industry’s contribution to global warming and what could be interpreted as an irresponsible attitude towards carbon dioxide emissions.

American car manufacturers are also being driven to develop more efficient cars by record oil prices. This has led to steep rises in the cost of gas, hitting American consumers and driving up inflation.
