Europeans have known and enjoyed the benefits of Living Roofs, or Green Roofs, for many years. Only now, as the push to ‘go green’ has increased, are Americans finding the same cost and earth saving advantages. Living roofs not only increase energy efficiency, by reducing the amount of heat or cold radiated into a home or building, they also collect storm water runoff.

Armed with only a fourth grade education, Edward Leedskalnin possessed a unique understanding of the laws of weight and leverage, and with that built a castle of immense proportions, singlehandedly. For twenty-eight years he quarried, cut, shaped, transported, and constructed the entire structure, with only primitive tools he fashioned from junk yard auto parts and cast away lumber.

Clothes that Grow from Living Human Tissue

In a lab far, far away grows a tiny coat, made of living tissue and shaped into what looks like small winter-wear for a mouse. The oddity of it is, this coat is alive, or was, (it has since died) a living organism created in a lab for the sake of art. Known as Victimless Leather, this project was grown onto a polymer matrix, coated with immortalized living cells, and shaped into varioius forms.
