In the relatively new area of study called biomimicry, scientists are tipping their hats off to nature for her sustainable designs. For instance, whale physiology can help make these wind turbines generate more power, while tropical fish can inspire energy efficient cars. After all, no one wants to reinvent the wheel when the blueprint already exists – especially when it's presented in the most intelligent and elegant of ways.

When confronted with the issue of what to do with an ex-Soviet bunker in the countryside, an enterprising Lithuanian decided that some things should be left the way they are... Welcome to 1984: Išgyvenimo Drama, otherwise known as Survival Drama in a Soviet Bunker. Built near Vilnius in 1980, when Lithuania was still a part of the USSR, the bunker's past life includes protecting a television transmitter and acting as a secure outpost for Soviet troops.

Created by London design group The Play Coalition, details of the plant bot’s inner workings are scarce but we suspect it uses a robot that constantly takes images of its surroundings, then evaluates whether the space next to it would have more sunlight than its current position. We’re not entirely sure whether it also senses furniture and errant pets but if it does then it’s pretty impressive.
